3D printed synth parts! Making cool and useful things with a Creality Ender 3 S1
3D printing is my new favorite thing! In this video, I use a 3D printer (a Creality Ender 3 S1) to make useful parts for my modular synthesizer and to prototype components for future musical inventions. I show what kind of accuracy you can expect to see straight out of the box with a modern printer like this one (hint: it's excellent). And finally, you’ll see a sneak peak of all the crazy things I have designed and printed for upcoming projects.
Here is the printer I used:

How to make a binaural ("3D") microphone
Просмотров 21 тыс.4 года назад
In this episode, I build a fantastic binaural ("3D") microphone and take it to Victoria Park in East London to make some test recordings! I then show you how you can make your own microphone from scratch. There are several other videos like this on RUclips but none of them really go into detail on the problems (like powering it properly, filtering out electrical/radio noise, etc.) so I really t...

Would there have been enough tension on the plate for it to function if you cut along the frame of the plate but left a bit of the corners intact?

I mean, if you actually got a plate that sounds good, I bet this would sound just as nice as the nicest EMT 140's around. I've heard one being tapped by a finger in real life, and the sound of just that acoustic finger tap in the room with it not hooked up was BEAUTIFUL. Very full and complex. So if you can find a much bigger plate that sounds something like the real plates they used back in the day (should be possible to make or at least find cheaply), you should be getting the exact same sound, even though you wouldn't be able to tune it the way you did the old ones, unless you built a little mechanical system for that, or even did it manually.

many analog pedals can run at higher voltage! check through the datasheets of any chips and transistors on the board and see what their Vsupply maximum is. in many cases you can adapt a guitar pedal circuit by clipping off the bias generation circuitry and plugging -12v to GND, +12v to 9V, and GND to what was the common bias voltage bus (in guitar pedals that's usually a pair of resistors and a transistor to generate 4.5 volts).

Doesn't the board you have, already have solder on the pads and the component's have solder on each end as well. So if you add liquid flux to the pads, can't you tack on each part? I know your method is much more secure and no uses no flux.

Hi Leo That was a very informative study you have done...... fabulous attention to detail. Thank you! One question......please? I actually have a pair of 737s, but have recently bought a UA X4 interface, and wondered which were the most important plugins that I should aim at buying? I am asking UA users for their views on this. I realise that my choices will depend on what I need to do musically, but a general overview would be handy. Thanks again for your presentation.

You don't need to understand difficult maths to understand convolution. It is just sliding one (reversed) function over the other and, at every point, multiplying them and integrating the result. I recommend watching But what is a convolution? by 3blue1brown to understand that. Even if you ignore the math there, you can get it from the visualisations.

I wonder if it could be made smaller if used with thin metal sheet. I actually have thin brass metal sheet on spool, like 25cm wide possibly 0.1mm thick. Need to try this. There is one important aspect missed in this video! Corrosion! In this video it looks like steel - it will quickly rust and change it's sound. Maybe for better... But it will change over time as more rust will build up.
